Bio
I started writing a huge bio for myself but then I realized few people would read it all the way through and it didn't necessarily say anything about who I am.

So who am I? I thought I knew, but it turns out I didn't. But there are a few things I know for sure.

I want to make the world better. I've been thinking about how to do this since the earliest I remember. My thoughts on how to do this have changed over time, though, starting naturally with the political process and evolving toward the creation of subversive technologies, such as those that allow people to interact without requiring the use of, say, land, cars, planes, offices, etc. Or to engage in private communication or monetary transactions. Or to get into space without needing a government to take them there. These are all technologies that take power from the hands of the few and place it into the hands of the many.

Another way to look at this progression is that I've been on an ascending spiral from communist to socialist to libertarian to Republican (the Republican phase was thankfully short) to anarcho-capitalist to where I am now, which could be described as something of a techno-anarchist. I don't know if government can be replaced or eliminated, but I want to see it do the least damage possible in the mean time, which is why I'm voting for Obama.

I like listening to music, but not enough to pay attention to artists or the names of songs most of the time.

I like science fiction books because they fuel my imagination, and I like thinking about the future. In fact, sometimes my need to think about the future can in some ways be considered a fault: I frequently don't spend enough time thinking about right now, and I can spend a lot of energy thinking about scenarios that will probably never happen.

I like watching movies, mostly adventure, science fiction, and comedy films. Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Star Trek, The Last Starfighter (one of my favorite movies of all time), Tron, Alien(s)(es), The Princess Bride, L.A. Story, Big Trouble in Little China, Blade Runner.

But most of all, I like people, particularly people who hold different views than my own (though there's a point where I can't seem to connect), because that's the only real way to expand my horizons. I love meeting new people and talking to them about themselves and how they see the world. Of course, I can be shy, particularly with people I perceive as easily offended.

Speaking of easily offended, I have learned that I really value people who appreciate direct communication. It's far too easy to make invalid assumptions, so it seems like it's just better to have as many expectations as possible right out on the table.

Anyway, that's enough for now.
